A custom hat isn’t a compromise between what you want and what exists. We design and craft yours from zero. Choose your block, your material, your brim length. Ship in 72 hours. Or meet with an artisan first to get it exactly right. We make custom hats the way they’re meant to be made: by hand, in a Florentine workshop where the same team shapes the crown, steams the brim, and hand-finishes the leather band. No wait list. No batches. Your hat, built for you.
Why a Custom Hat When Ready-Made Exists
The question we hear most often is simple: why not just order from the collection we already have? Fair question. The honest answer is that ready-made works for most people. But custom hat ordering isn’t for everyone. It’s for people who know what they want and can’t find it. The person who needs a shorter brim but a deeper crown. The traveler who wants our crushable technology in a summer straw version. The person who wants the exact shade of brown that matches their eyes, not the brown that matches the collection. The gift-giver who wants to send someone a hat that’s literally one of a kind.
We don’t push custom orders. We make them because some hats have to be personal. Your custom hat is hand-shaped on a wooden block chosen specifically for the proportions you want. That takes time. That takes contact with an artisan who can see your head and understand what your hat needs to do. But it also means you get back something made exactly for you. Not made for the average. Made for you.
How Custom Hat Orders Work Here

When you order a custom hat from us, you’re not filling out a form in a vacuum. You’re starting a conversation with the workshop.
What You Choose
Every custom hat order starts with three decisions: your crown style, your material, and your felt color. The block is the wooden form we steam and shape the hat around, which determines the crown height, the brim length, and how the hat sits on your head. We have six block styles, each with a different personality. Want a deeper crown and shorter brim for travel?
Material is straightforward: fur-felt or beaver-felt for year-round wear, or straw for warm months. Felt color is where it gets personal. You pick the one that speaks to you.
The 72-Hour Build
Once you’ve chosen your block, material, and its color, an artisan in our Florentine workshop starts. The clock is real. We can make a custom hat in 72 hours because we’ve spent years refining how to do it without compromising quality. Raw felt body gets steamed and shaped on your block. The brim gets formed, the edge gets bound, the interior sweatband gets sewn in by hand. You don’t get a hat that’s been in a warehouse or on a shelf. You get a hat that was completed three days ago, in a room near the Arno.
Virtual Fitting with an Artisan
If you want absolute confidence before your artisan starts building, we offer a virtual fitting. You book a time, you open your laptop, and one of our team members looks at your head and your face and talks through the proportions with you. No sales pitch. Just: does this block work for you? Do you need a slight adjustment? Would you prefer the brim a fraction shorter? It’s the same conversation that happens in a traditional hat shop, except you’re sitting in your kitchen and our artisan is in Florence.
Customization Details: What We Can Build

Custom hat ordering doesn’t mean infinite options. It means you’re ordering from a defined set of choices, made the way we know how to make them well.
Felt vs. Straw: Which for Custom
Fur-felt and beaver felt are the choices if you want a custom hat you can wear year-round. Both hold their shape, recover from being crushed or rained on, and age into character. Beaver felt is the more refined option: denser, softer, and with a natural water resistance that makes it particularly suited to everyday and travel wear. Fur-felt is equally durable and slightly more relaxed in finish. If you travel, felt is the material. If you want something for warmth, or if you live somewhere the air is thick from December through March, either felt is reliable.
Straw is the seasonal choice. Traditional Florentine wheat straw, woven by hand and shaped on your block, is lighter and cooler. It holds a finer edge, which means we can build you a more delicate custom hat if that's what you want. Paper straw splits the difference: it's contemporary, affordable, and close in weight and behavior to traditional straw, though the aesthetic is slightly different. Both straws are breathable. Neither is waterproof, though they'll survive light rain without damage.
The Virtual Fitting: You and an Artisan

Here’s what the virtual fitting actually looks like. You book an open slot on our calendar. At the appointed time, an artisan from our Florentine Atelier opens the call, and so do you. They look at your head. How is your face shaped? Are you wider at the cheekbones or the jaw? What’s the length from your forehead to the back of your skull? Are your ears prominent? These details matter because they determine which block will sit right on your head.
You talk through your life. Are you buying this for travel, or for everyday wear? Do you have a preferred brim length, or are you neutral? They ask if you’ve worn hats before, and if so, what worked and what didn’t. They listen to you describe the color of your eyes and what you wear most often. They ask if you have a rough timeline in mind.
Then they tell you what they think. Here’s the block that will work best for you. Here’s the material. Here’s the color. They’re not telling you what you should want. They’re reflecting back what they’ve heard and offering their judgment as craftspeople who’ve shaped thousands of hats.
Sometimes you book the call and everything aligns on the first try. Sometimes you talk it through and decide that a different block makes more sense, or that the leather band should be a different color. That’s fine. The call is free. The expertise is genuine. You only order when you’re confident.
Ready to Design Your Hat
Custom hat ordering isn’t fast fashion. It’s 72 hours from decision to your door. It’s one hat, made by people, not a batch of a thousand. It costs more than ready-made because time and skill and attention cost more. But if you know what you want, and if that thing doesn’t exist in the colors and proportions we have ready-made, then custom hat ordering from our Florence atelier is the closest you’ll get to walking into the workshop and asking us to make something for you.
We can build your custom hat right now. Choose your block, your material, your brim length. Book a virtual fitting if you want a second opinion first. Then sit back and wait for three days while an artisan in Florence shapes it exactly as you described it.
